Every year, I update my ultralight backpacking gear list in the spring with what I anticipate bringing into the backcountry for the following backpacking season. However, every year, I also make an effort to try out new gear – whether newly released or new to me – whenever the opportunity presents itself.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from all my thousands of miles (and nights?) out backpacking, it’s that there’s no such thing as a perfect gear list; they’re living things, constantly evolving and changing.
