What We’re Spending Our REI Dividends on This Year

We wait all year for dividend season. Depending on your spending habits the year prior, and whether you have an REI Mastercard to bump that dividend up, you might see anywhere from a few bucks in the account to $100 or more.

For those who don’t know how it works: REI members get 10% back on qualifying REI purchases. (This doesn’t include Outlet items, discounted gear, gift cards, and REI Adventures services). So if you buy a $300 tent, you’ll get $30 added to your dividend the next March. Pretty simple. That money can then go toward more gear.

These are the gear items we’re spending our dividends on this year, in order of how much got dumped into your member account a few weeks ago. This is a good time to grab goods you wouldn’t normally spend money on, like pricey dehydrated meals, or use it to put toward your dream Big Three item.

REI stores are temporarily closed, but all shipping is currently free from REI.com.

For longer hikes, it’s convenient to carry a small backcountry water filter, such as a Sawyer Mini or Micro, which allows you to replenish your water from natural sources like streams or ponds.
