Luis & Joselys, Camp Uwani founders, both grew up in The Bronx, NY as true city kids with no exposure to the outdoors. As they both grew to appreciate hiking and camping more and more, they found they struggled to find people of color in outdoor spaces. That is why they founded Camp Uwani in 2024 to create a welcoming, judgment-free hiking community where beginners, especially people of color, can learn, explore, and connect.
